Description

The Ottoman Empire can be considered the "cured man of Europe". Starting from the early 1930s, the country has experienced a renaissance like no other with aid from the German Empire and the Scandinavian states. This was primarily achieved by federalizing and secularizing the country, as well as by detaching territories that were administratively too overextensive.

In 1928, the Ottoman Empire sold for a large sum most of its vilayets of Hedjaz and Yemen to the Kingdom of Arabia, established a "Free City" of Mecca and exchanged North Yemen for Cyprus with the UK. The German Empire basically strong-armed every one of the deals.

In 1930, the Empire released and rebuilt the states of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. This action was actually done rather independently from German advice, and as such was seen as the first step to the restoration of Ottoman de facto sovereignty.

In 1933, the Vilayet system was abolished, with Turkey re-forming itself into a devolved government consisting of the Federation of Turkey, State of Kurdistan, Federation of Mesopotamia, State of Syria, State of Palestine and the Republic of Cyprus. Jewish Palestine (with Jerusalem and part of the Negev desert) was given as a protectorate (and social experiment, heheh) to Germany.

In 1935, the Ottoman Empire adopted a new constitution. In it, it renounced the caliphate and secularized the state, formalized its new federal structure, established a modern bureaucracy, restored the parliament and set plans for a multinational Grand Pan-Imperial Army. The ruling system would still most precisely be classified as one of Prussian Constitutionalism, though.

Thus the Empire was transformed into a modern nation.

Over the next 15 years, the people grew to tolerate and even like the new Empire's outlook, the GPIA was built up, the ethnic tensions calmed. Several diplomatic victories, such as one against Mussolini's Italy in the Dodecanese, strengthened the Ottomans further. After some more time, the de-colonization of European powers struck, and Egypt became independent from the UK. The Ottomans seized the Sinai peninsula along with the Suez Canal as soon as the opportunity struck, and made it into the seventh Ottoman State.

In 1963 (Before Sinai), a revised constitution curbed the Sultan/Emperor's powers and centralized some state functions.

Historians in the 21st Century credit the Ottoman revival with the admission of a large portion of the Middle East (traditionally considered Asian) into the European civilization, and the salvation of the region from violent ethnic, religious and political strife. The Ottoman Empire is now a veritable Great Power, with a population of about 154 million people, an army of 1.7 million soldiers of all Ottoman nationalities and a booming economy based around manufacturing and resources.

It would not reflect well on the Ottoman government, are caliphate remember, to literally sell Muslim populated land for money.
